1940-2010
Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at the ICU
of The Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, Reg Button (retired
teacher) of Sibley's Cove.
Predeceased by his parents, Hector and Beatrice Button and nephew, Ian Button. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his devoted and loving wife of 46 years, Rita (Halfyard);
two sons, Bernard (Heidi) of Paradise and Brian (Sonia) of Bonavista; two precious grandsons, Nathan and Rylan; sister, Barbara (Charl) Brown, St. John's;
brother, Dr. Eric (Judy) Button, Gander; brother-in-law, Clayton (Doris) Halfyard, Foxtrap; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Best (Ed, deceased), Thornlea and
Geraldine Higdon (Clyde, deceased), New Harbour; uncle, Charles Eddy (Hilda), Victoria and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Reg retired from teaching in 1990 after spending 30 years in the profession at Thornlea and at E. J. Pratt in Brownsdale. He was an active volunteer over the years with various groups
and organizations. At the time of his death, he held the position of Worshipful Master of Gushue LOL, Preceptor of the Royal Black Preceptory, Sibley's Cove, Past Master of Trinity South District Lodge, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador division of the Navy League of Canada and was also a member of the Lower Trinity South Development Association. Monday, October 4, 7:00pm. ~ 9:00pm. Tuesday, October 5, 10:00am. ~ 10:00pm. and Wednesday, October 6, 10:00am. ~ 12:00pm. Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, October 6 @ 2:00pm. from Bethel United Church, Sibley's Cove. Interment to follow at The United Church Cemetery, Sibley's Cove. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Reg's memory to the Kidney Foundation.
