Edwin Riggs

Edwin Riggs
It is with profound broken hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Edwin Riggs on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the age of 52 years old.

Edwin was an extraordinary husband, father, brother, son, and friend who would take the shirt off his back for someone. He was hard working, loyal, caring, compassionate, funny, and selfless, but above all, he loved his family beyond measure. His laughter was contagious, he could make an empty room feel full. Edwin left this world peacefully in his favourite place, his home in Bay de Verde, surrounded by his family.

He was the best dad and husband. Edwin took immense pride in his family's accomplishments, always speaking about them whenever the opportunity presented itself. He would always look forward to settling in at the end of a workday to talk over a cup of Tetley tea with Carnation milk. His passion for nature was observed hiking with his children. During family vacations, he was always alongside his children on the front row of every rollercoaster, memories that will be cherished forever.

Edwin was the chef of a good pot of goulash, made a stellar porkchop, and was top chef on the barbeque. He loved living life and loved a good deal. Edwin would venture out to the grocery store and come back with 24 cans of mushroom soup, simply because they were on sale.

You would often see Edwin in a pair of Eddie Bauer knaki pants, he always had to have cash and a napkin in his pocket. His Saturday morning rountine consisted of a dump run with a Tim's coffee accompanied by his dog, Pippi, and his Sunday morning routine included a Costco grocery run, early in the morning of course, because that is "the only time the good fruits and vegetables are in stock". He always had to read out everything he purchased on the receipt.

He loved to be active and busy, often starting multiple household jobs, but of course, rarely finishing them. And was he ever forgetful, even managing to drive to work with his tea mug on the hood of his truck, only to find out at a red light after looking in his rear-view mirror.

Edwin devoted his life to helping others through tough times. In his career, starting as a child and youth care worker and eventually becoming a child and adolescent social work therapist. He was and will continue to be a role model within the healthcare community. He made the world a better place.

Leaving to keep his legacy alive is Edwin's loving wife, Kenda; their two beautiful children who he adored, Madison (Jeremy) and Keegan; and their fur babies, Pippa and Puss Puss. Also leaving to mourn and remember Edwin is his mother, Dorothy (Dot) who will miss her "Eddie me boy" dearly; siblings: Ricky (Evelyn), Marie (Brad), Colleen (Rob), Michelle (Kelly), and Denise; father-in-law, Eric; mother-in-law, Melita; sister-in-law, Melissa (Jeff); best friend, Billy; and a large circle of nieces and nephews (Jordan, Candace, Cassandra, Ashley, Bradley, Cameron, Brady, Colin, Nathan and Emma); great nieces and nephew (Esmae, Nolan and Rosa); and many wonderful family, friends and colleagues. Edwin is predeceased by his dad, Cyril Riggs.

Having rested at Caul's Funeral Home, St. John's Edwin will continue to rest at Hopkins' Funeral Home, Old Perlican with visitation on Friday, September 20, 2024 2:00 pm. to 8:00 pm.
Funeral mass to take place from Parish of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Bay de Verde on September 21, 2024 at 1:00 pm. with interment to follow in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bay de Verde.
