Irene Squires

1936-2024

Irene Squires
Irene Squires passed peacefully away at her home in Old Perlican, surrounded by family and love, on May 27, 2024.

Irene was born August 18, 1936 to her parents, Elisha and Hannah Garland. She was born and raised in Lower Island Cove with her older sister, Jessie. She later moved to Old Perlican, where she met the love of her life, "Oie". She worked at the Old Perlican Cottage Hospital as a cook for approximately 30 years. Her greatest gift in life was her beautiful children, Linda and Rick.

Irene spent may days in her kitchen baking bread and cakes. There were many wedding cakes that came from her kitchen. Her favourite times were when all her family was running around her home. Her face would light up when her grandchildren: Christopher, Brad, Curtis, Michael and Jamie came to see her. Later, they came with their children: Sara, Dawson, Spencer, Channing, Jaxon, Cater, and Kaden. She was never happier than when her home was full.

For the past few years, Irene was able to have another family with her to allow her to stay in the home that she built. She loved them all: Laurie (Santa Claus), Maureen, Kayla, Michelle, Nita, and her very special niece, Jessie. Irene was a friend to all and was always open for a chat with many.

Leaving to mourn are her loving children, Linda (Don) and Rick (Marg);
grandchildren: Christopher (Heather), Brad (Dana), Curtis (Cindy), Michael (Lois), and Jamie (Sarah);
great grandchildren: Sara, Dawson, Spencer, Channing, Jaxon, Carter, and Kaden;
special nieces, Jessie and Loretta, as well as other nieces and nephews;
her homecare workers; along with many family and friends.

Predeceased by her loving husband, William "Oie" Squires; parents, Elisha and Hannah Garland;
parents-in-law, Simeon and Jessie Squires; sister, Jessie Snelgrove; nephew, Graham Snelgrove; and other members of the Garland and Squires families.
