Passed peacefully away at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion,
Carbonear, Shirley Thomas Best of Brownsdale, aged 92 years.
Predeceased by first husband, Wesley Thomas; second husband, Stanley Best; parents, Abraham and Janie Matthews; sisters, Floss French and Alice Matthews; son, Terry Thomas; and granddaughter, Gillian Fleming.
Left with fond and loving memories are Cynthia (Tommy) Penney, Charmaine (Ted) Eddy, Elaine (Chuck) Arsenault; daughter-in-law, Elva Thomas;
grandchildren: Tammy, Lisa (Andy), Phillip (Diana), Juanita (Wayne), Rob (Chia), Tracey (Jim), Corina (Chris), Matthew (Sarah) and Shane (Rebecca);
many great grandchildren; extended family and circle of friends; as well as special friend, Cyril Walsh.
Shirley dedicated her life to her family and friends. Her love of God shined bright every day and she expressed that love in part by attending services in churches throughout Trinity Bay. Shirley was an organist in Brownsdale United Church for many years. She also dedicated her time to the LOBA, the UCW, and the Crystal Chapter for the United Church.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the home care workers who provided her with care for many years, her personal care workers at Kingsway Living, Old Perlican and the staff at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion, Carbonear.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation at Hopkins' Funeral Home, Old Perlican on Friday, September 9, 2022, 2:00 pm. to 6:00 pm.
Funeral service to take place on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm. from Brownsdale United Church, Brownsdale. Interment to follow.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Shirley's memory to Brownsdale United Church, Brownsdale.
